Fly right into the Gunnison/Crested Butte Airport, just 30 miles down the road from Crested Butte. Car rentals are available at the airport but, most of our guests prefer to allow the Alpine Express Shuttle do the driving.

Once in town, you’ll be able to get around via the Mountain Express, our free on-mountain transportation service, so a car is optional.

  • From Denver – Follow highway 285 (South) to Poncha Springs, then highway 50 (West) to Gunnison. From Gunnison head north on highway 135. Trip time: approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes.* From Colorado Springs… Follow highway 24 (West) to highway 285 (South) into Poncha Springs. From Poncha Springs follow highway 50 (West) into Gunnison, then head north on highway 135 into Crested Butte. Trip time: 3 hours and 20 minutes.* From Dallas…Take highway 287 (North) to I25 in New Mexico. Head north on I25 to Walsenburg, highway 160 (West) to Alamosa, CO, highway 285 (North) to Saguache, highway 114 (North) to highway 50, highway 50 (West) to Gunnison and highway 135 (North) to Crested Butte. Trip time: approximately 15 hours.
  • From Phoenix – Follow interstate 17 to Flagstaff, then head north on highway 89 to highway 160 (East) to Durango, then highway 550 (North) to Montrose. From Montrose take highway 50 (East) to Gunnison and then highway 135 (North) to Crested Butte. Trip time: approximately 10 hours, 52 minutes.

Getting Around Once You’ve Arrived

The Mountain Express offers a free and convenient transportation with service around Mt. Crested Butte as well as to/from Crested Butte. Routes change with the season. Please ask for a shuttle schedule as you check in.
